The Bergkonge
From Norwegian folklore comes the Bergkonge - the Mountain King. It is said he appears in the forests around Dovre, Norway, where he seduces women he finds alone and takes them to the mountain with him. They are never seen again.
To do this, the Bergekonge appears as a handsome man, dressed in a cloak of leaves and nothing else. That sounds kinda hot, I suppose, but if I saw a dude wandering a forest wearing nothing but leaves, I’d be suspicious as hell. But I’m like that - Norwegians might be more trusting than I am.
Still, the pretty-boy-in-the-leafy-cloak look is still better than Bergkonge’s true form, which is either a giant arachnid monster or a huge, terrifying lizard creature. Presumably, the ladies he takes become his dinner - Jeffery Dhamer style. If so, he has a fetish for female flesh - he never takes men, the sexist creep.
Some say the legend of the Bergkonge came from some ethnic minority that was passing through near Dovre, a group so rare in the area that the locals freaked a bit, especially if one of the local ladies voluntarily chose to join their tribe.
Whatever the truth, the Bergkonge was an early option for the identity of Russell Wright, the man who stole Yip’s childhood. She knew he was a monster, the question was always… what kind of monster was he? Maybe a Bergkonge?
Do you think you’d be able to resist the allure of a Bergkonge, if you encountered one in the forests of Dovre?
